Happiness

Leader : Rakesh Aggarwal

This is a highly practical talk, about our current happiness levels and ways in which we can increase them. We do not need more time or money to be happier – just a change in thinking and attitude.

Depression has increased in wealthy countries.
We are less happy as a nation.
Increased consumerism does not lead to more happiness.
Increased personal wealth may lead to less happiness.

A fundamental problem with the green movement is that they have been trying to convince people for years to “do the right thing”. In the face of big business, with it’s highly appealing marketing, they have not been as effective as they need to be. However, research shows that co-operation and caring, not selfish consumption, makes people happier. Maybe the appeal of the green movement would increase if this was emphasised.
