Bread and Roses: A case study from the Handmade Bakery
Workshop Leader: Dan & Johanna McTiernan
Re-establishing local food production lies at the heart of the Transition vision, and one of the most emotive and resonant examples of this is the community bakery.
Social entrepreneurs, The Handmade Bakery, have brought real bread back to the villages of the Colne Valley using an innovative variation on the CSA subscription model – Community Supported Baking. All their breads are hand crafted and produced on the premises using traditional baking techniques.
This workshop maps out their philosphy, origins and development and includes a question and answer session for those wishing to start similar ventures – or just eager to brush up
their baking skills.
Dan and Johanna are founders of the Handmade Bakery
